About Red Square Russian Book 1

Red Square Russian Book 1 covers all you would hope to learn in your first year or so of studying Russian: basic biographical details, free time, school, work and future plans, life at home, daily routine, food, holidays, and more. It assumes a working knowledge of the printed alphabet but little else, and by the end of the book learners will already be able to cope with texts of a good GCSE level. Grammar is introduced in a step-by-step manner with plenty of cloze exercises and similar to rehearse new points. Grammatical topics covered include: a full introduction to cases (although the dative is not introduced fully until book 2), verb conjugation, tenses, and adjectival agreement. Grammatical tables are provided at the back of the book. Each chapter contains reading, listening, speaking, writing, and grammar activities, and there is a wide range of exercise type to prevent things from becoming samey. There are vocabulary lists at the end of every chapter and a handy Russian-English glossary at the back of the book containing all the words used. Cultural information in English is provided. 146 pages in full colour, with 35 listening exercises. (Listening materials are available for purchase separately.) £23.95.
